Topic: Persecution & Evangelism
But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.
John 5:21, ESV
Persecution is a result of ignorance more than anything.
That statement is a bit elementary, but nonetheless true in both its interpretation and the presumed connotations. There is very little doubt that unbelievers are at the heart of 99% of persecution endured by believers—but herein lies the problem: it is unbelievers we are seeking to reach with the Truth. I never want to imply that it has been or is EASY for one to become a believer, but there have been periods of tremendous revival and acceptance of the Gospel that have witnessed the miraculous infection of the Truth permeate a society. And there are times, like our current state-of-affairs, where an apathy towards the things of God due to a lack of ANY true understanding exists. We ARE on the path of towards a great persecution in the western world. But that means we are also moving towards a great move of the Spirit. Living in a country where Judeo-Christian values serve as the foundation of our society is a catch-22. While we have enjoyed the freedoms to worship as we like, methodically the enemy has chipped away at the influence of those values upon the citizens of this country. The Truth has not changed, the people have. We are no longer sowing many seeds on fertile ground, but rather upon a trodden path or amongst thorns. We are in the midst of a “tilling” season within the church. Will we stay the course as persecution begins to become the norm?
Thank You for Truth and for the fortitude to remain in that Truth. May I be strong enough to endure the persecution when it comes. Help me to be mindful and wise in the Truth, able to withstand the barrage of criticism and possible physical harm to come.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
